N SPACE textures is a combination of photographic site exploration and minimal intervention which questions the place of art and the role of framing/contextualization in the artistic process. The artist has framed small zones of interesting textures on the walls and doors of the building at 185-101 Van Horne. This framing was first performed with a digital camera, capturing select textures as the frist step in their alchemical transformation into "ART". Next the captured images are recontextualized on the world wide web where they exist as primarily surface texture fields. The second stage of the project is the presentation of these photographs at the Lighthouse (930 Champagneur - more info about lighthouse events at http://my.calendars.net /lighthouse23/ ). They will be on view as of October 21st for an as of yet undetermined period of time. While the web is still perceived as a relatively new artistic medium, presenting framed photographs in a multidisciplinary setting is decidely "artistic" behaviour. Thirdly TARO completes the cycle and returns to the original wall textures themselves, framing the photographed details in a gesture affirming the concrete origins and fundamental necessity of the specific site to the creation of this work. The original intention was to attach frames made of recycled wood to the areas in question. Technical difficulties affixing the frames resulted in a change in strategy. Two wooden frames remain, the other details are framed by black spray paint. This multiple framing calls into question the actual location of the work as such: WHERE IS ART?
